I am clearly not "Juicy"

I was just perusing the Mall of America website for details of their Halloween event tonight, when this advertisement caught my eye:

Does anyone really walk like this? Has she just been hit by a car and thus her awkward head flip/hair flying/twisted up skirt? Or is she walking along Miami in a hurricane? Perhaps she skipping wildly and braying like a horse?
WTF people?
Who approves these things?
And why would this make me want to shop in Minnesota in the fall?

That is all.

A random collection of events making up a day

I baked a cake today for hubby's b-day! It was not pretty and I did not take a photo, but I did eat a giant whack after dinner and it was fantastic. I get a gold star for that too, especially since I had to entertain TC while whipping it up. Chocolate with vanilla frosting is my favorite, I'm definitely looking forward to eating it for breakfast all weekend.

I also took The Cupcake on a couple adventures including down to the JBF sale in Woodbury. I didn't buy anything, and was actually kind of appalled at the mess a lot of people left (who fills giant bags at consignment sales and then just abandons them in corners of the arena? There were TONS of these! That means people's stuff won't get sold because someone was a douchebag and basically took it off the sales floor! Jerks!). Anyways, I'm happy that I appear to have sold some stuff so far, and I'm proud I didn't buy anything, but I'm hoping it picks up the next couple days and none of my stuff was dumped in those abandoned bags!

Then we headed over to Target to pick up Grandma's mothers' day gift, and rounded the trip out with some Pizza Hut pasta from the snack bar. The only snafu was me thinking I'd save time and effort by NOT bringing the diaper bag in to Target, and then ending up without a bib or wipes during the lunch process. Let's just not linger on the germs that were probably ingested. Lesson learned, the wipes travel with the baby at all times.

Then we went out to Famous Dave's for hubby's birthday, and somehow I forgot a bib AGAIN and the kid ended up covered in BBQ sauce (even though she didn't have anything in sauce...it's just in the air apparently).

Tomorrow I work 1/2 day, and then I'm down to my final week (which is really just 2 1/2 days!). It feels like it's not quite real and I'm waiting for some big emotional impact, but one thing I've noticed is as my schedule opens up, I'm forgetting which day it is more and more often. I think (hope) it's less about losing my mind and more about the freedom from obligation. But I could just be nuts too.

Currently Reading: STUFF: Compulsive Hoarding and the Meaning of Things and it's pretty interesting. Its a fairly scientific explanation of hoarding from one of the first psychologists to really study the phenomenon and a lot of really interesting stories - if you like the TV shows, you'd probably like the book (I'm about halfway through, so subject to change).

And that random stream of thoughts was my day - bring on the weekend!

Checking In...

So when you fall through the ice in a Minnesota winter, your body tries to survive by shutting down function to the extremities in order to keep the core going. Bodies are smart that way.

That's pretty much my new mom strategy too. Apologies to "extremities" that have been put on ice for a while - i.e. cleaning, socializing, brushing my hair...

I've also taking a bit of a sabbatical from blogging I guess, it wasn't intentional but it's working out just fine. I just had a few too many balls in the air, and it's amazing how much easier juggling is when you kick a few of those balls under the couch and forget about them.)

So, YES, I am alive!

Yes, I will blog again - eventually! I even have a few projects I really should put up before I forget them.

And if you are visiting from [MN]Love's newsletter, welcome, thank you, and you'll find my "Marriage is..." pic and post here.

And this is The Cupcake at 10 months + change, using her FOUR new teeth to test out a pickle:

Ta ta for now...

"Turns the Brain to Mush" - a very encouraging statement...

I know I had fun yesterday, and was even mentally putting together a "brought me joy" post, but I never got around to getting it out and now...I can't remember what I was going to talk about.

I actually can't really remember what I did yesterday.

There are a LOT of things I can't remember. It's frankly starting to freak me out.

My short term memory has gotten progressively worse since The Cupcake's arrival, and I'm assuming (hoping) that it's just hormones or lack of sleep. That sounds probable, and much less expensive than any of the alternatives, especially since we have pretty crappy insurance right now. Did I already talk about the study that found mice who are woken up a lot during the night act like drunken amnesiacs?

(Note: I had to check. I really thought I had written about this. Guess not. Searching "Drunken Amnesiac Mice" returned zero results on my blog - BUT NOT ANYMORE!)

Anyways, Good Morning America or something similar did a tiny little segment recently on a "new study" that found mice who were woken up repeatedly during the night acted all crazy and could not keep their shiz together.

Huh, who knew? Maybe...EVERY MOM EVER? Or maybe it's just me...totally possible...

So this is a very long and rambling way to say TC still wakes up 2-25 times a night, and even when she IS sleeping, I wake up and stare at her, or think about the other 500 things I need to do.

But I keep hearing it all gets better...right?

Also, do you love that I can't remember what day of the week it is, but the phrase "drunken amnesiacs" stuck in my brain clearly? I kind of do too.

As I was trying to remember the point of this post, I googled "sleep study mice drunken amnesiac" and found an article about the study in question. The good news is IT'S NOT JUST ME! At least one Portland mom and a bunch of lab rats have the same problem. However, the article cites no remedies, solutions, or is hazy about whether or not I should hope for sleep ever again.

What were we talking about?

You Spin Me Right Round Baby Right Round...

I seem to be spinning in a few circles right now with all the different directions I'm trying to go, and I can't be sure I'm actually moving anywhere...but regardless, time keeps marching on! Today marks just SEVEN WEEKS till the Cupcake's due date!?!?! I can't quite believe it.

So here's what's going on:

- still planning on finishing up the Halloween party recaps & tutorials, it hasn't quite been a month since the party so I don't feel too bad...yet :)

- had an EPIC and AMAZING baby shower this past weekend, thrown by my dear sweet BFF Alison, and I can't wait to share all of her adorable little touches, as well as show off Cupcake's giant new wardrobe.

- now I probably should get a move on with all the "other stuff" we need to start buying up, mainly the super glamorous stuff like "rectal thermometers" and "diaper bags", and lots of sheets and mattress pads.

- finally took down all of the voodoo decorations from the nursery, so I can get back to the mermaids & pirates theme we had intended :) I have a few ideas in mind, and a lot of Etsy listings bookmarked, so hopefully this weekend will bring a lot of progress.

- decided that I had to put up at least a few holiday decorations this year, and started to assemble the medium sized Christmas tree. Remember when I bought all of these "sweets" ornaments last year? I'm dying to break them out...but I can't seem to FIND them! I spent a few hours going through the Xmas boxes last week, but I did such a "tetris"-like job fitting everything in, I was scared to take it all apart and really look for what I needed. Maybe I'll have some time this weekend to track them down.

- I have yet to address the blue screen of death on my laptop. Probably should get on that. I really miss it already :( I think I'm in the avoidance stage of grieving...

- and according to "the books," I'm supposed to have my hospital bag packed and my birth plan printed out by this time...so...uh...yeah, maybe I'll start thinking about that sometime...STAY, Cupcake, STAY PUT! At least until I can catch up at little! Though I can understand if you are in a hurry to see all your cute things, such as this little romper which might be my favorite:

Happy Thanksgiving, happy long holiday weekend, and happy short work week to you all!

One step forward, two steps back...

That sounds more melancholy than I actually feel right now, but it's still true. Last night things were accomplished, then other things were dis-accomplished. Unaccomplished. Moved back onto the "to do" list. Drat!

Good news first:

- assembled two big wire shelving units for the laundry room

- moved the giant pile of clean blankets, sheets, tablecloths, and pillowcases off the bar, where they've been living for far too long to their new home on the laundry room shelves

- washed 2 loads of laundry, put away 4

- took down the blacklights from last year's party, the remaining 3M hooks, and replaced the ceiling tiles in the basement - so it's ready to decorate for this year!

- replaced all lights around the bar with red bulbs

- ate a few cheeseburgers

...and then I decided to try on my costume.

...and it wasn't very cute. Definitely not cute enough. Hmmmm.

...so while I was thinking of it, I had hubby try on his costume...which didn't fit.

AT ALL. He couldn't even get into it, let alone zip it up.

So...there was definitely progress made, after which I was feeling pretty proud of myself, and even the things that ended up undone (back to the drawing board on costumes) were better discovered at this point than in the hours just before the party. Guess I have some more shopping to do!

More Midway Shenanigans...

Exciting things always happen when I do errands in Midway. Today I ran to Target on my lunch break to purchase some important last minute supplies for a wedding this weekend - fake eyelashes and a gigantic strapless bra (not a lot of options in my rapidly increasing size range, how do you busty ladies do it?). While waiting for the world's slowest cashier to ring up 7000 school supplies for the family in front of me, I absent mindedly rubbed my stomach.

I can't help it. It's unconscious. It's like when people get their tongue pierced and rub it on their teeth all the time, or how a newly engaged woman twirls her ring nonstop. To the rest of the world it looks like you are showing off and drawing attention, but really it's completely out of your control - something new is there where something isn't normally, and you just have to touch it. So if you're reading this and humming "Pregnant Women Are Smug," that's fine for a million other reasons, but not because of the belly rubbing. I imagine people do it with breast implants too (I probably would).

When it was finally my turn, cashier asks "How are you feeling?"

A slight departure from the usual "How are you" nicety, but okay...

"Fine, thanks." (Wow, I gave her a thanks. I must have been feeling charitable!)

"Well, you were rubbing your stomach..."

(uh, sorry? WTF?) "Oh, I'm pregnant, so it's just hanging out there..." (why am I explaining?)

"Yeah, I know - I just ask because I've had one person go into labor in my lane."

Once again, Target Midway is never a dull excursion. And possibly a good place to jumpstart labor. Will keep in mind.

I'm off to a super exciting weekend wedding, where I will cross #101 off my bucket list and catch up with some amazing friends from high school. I may bring my "WebConnect Rocket" but no promises, since this lumpy lady crashes about 8pm on a normal night.

A thought so random, I'm blaming the sugar high...

The bottom of my G-mail screen has a little counter that says "You are using 17% of your (some number & measurement I don't understand) blah blah space."

I think they should make one of those for all aspects of life, i.e. "you are currently using 17% of your brain" (and that's being generous, since I'm at work and we all know how engaging that is. But I did have to play a game of tetris with all my foodstuffs to pack them into the tiny compartment I hide all my junk in at my desk, so that had to use SOME brain power...)

or what about

"You are using .0007% of your potential." That might be too depressing to acknowledge. And probably worse if it came out a really high number, and I had to realize "this is as good as it's gonna get, kid."

*Shudder*

5 Awesome things about today:

- Coconut Shrimp and Cheddar Bay Biscuits for lunch (Thanks Dad!)

- I remembered to take out the garbage (after a few weeks of forgetting...but we never fill the can, even in a month, so no big deal)

- My normal jeans fell off without a belt, and my "skinny jeans" feel great (not that there's a huge difference, but I'm definitely enjoying roller skating even more now!
FYI, photo is NOT me...yet :)

- Cleaned out my purse, caught up on mail & bills, organized my desk, and balanced my checkbook

- Korean Beef for Dinner!

Summer Lovin'

This year it seems that we have skipped straight from winter to summer, a very non-Minnesotan turn of events, but one that I'm enjoying immensely. In previous years we've still had snow on the ground at this point (I'm hardly exaggerating...an end of March snowstorm is very common), but this year was the first in "modern record" that no snow fell on the Twin Cities in March - leading us in to an early and dramatic spring. Temps have been in the 60's and higher fairly consistently, should be in the mid 70's today, and it's definitely brought on a wave of spring fever.

This past weekend was my first in a long time with ZERO commitments and it was glorious. I feel like I relaxed and "did nothing", but I actually got a lot accomplished as well:

- We grilled. I highly recommend the cheddar bacon burgers from Rainbow or Byerly's. Mmmm.

- I moved all my sweaters and winter clothes into storage, then completely cleaned and re-oganized my closet. I tossed all of the clothes that "sorta" fit into the yard sale pile. Ditto with shoes.

- I finished THREE books. One each Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Pure indulgence.

- We opened windows, and Norm & I basked in the sun on the couch while reading above mentioned books and listening to my entire ipod playlist. I also burned candles and hopefully cleared the "winter of dog" mustiness from the house.

- I painted my toenails sparkly red. Bring on the sandals! I actually tried to wear sandals last week but it was still really cold in my office, so let's hope today is better. Double bonus points: found a pair of excellent sandals in my basement closet that I had forgotten all about - SCORE!

(they're the brown version of these, and SO comfortable! Dare I consider taking them to New York???)

I'm waiting up just a bit more on taking the winter coats to the dry cleaner, washing out the windowsils (ick), and a few other tasks, but for now I'm quite content to welcome the warm weather and sunshine. Even if that means I had to shave my legs.

Time for Spring, I Say! (well, the creepy little gnome says)

I had this post all laid out on Friday, about costumes I'd gathered from my closet, sort of a tour of last minute cheap easy costume ideas as I sorted through what to wear to the NSRG bout on Saturday. I figured I'd play some dress up, snap some pics, do a trial run...

I didn't get to it.

Oops.

The pace of life has certainly risen with the temperatures, to the point I've had to start relying on my calendar in fear I'll miss something big. I'll have to cram the costume search in sometime this week, because between coaching, pooper scooping the back yard, Mom's birthday dinner, a craft class, a lunch meeting, and finishing up borrowed books - my weekend somehow passed me by.

Extricating myself from bed this morning was AGONY - I have to say I had really gotten used to it being just a little light out when I was trying to convince myself to go to work. That argument gets much more difficult when it still looks like night. I know it'll only be dark again for a few more weeks, and it'll be nice to see some sun when I get home, but it makes for a sleepy, surly Monday morning.

I took some photos of projects this weekend, but have yet to upload them, so instead here's a little vintage Spring strangeness for you:

Weekend Fun

Hung out in the sunny living room (FINALLY!) with Stormin' Norman:

More Roller Derby Action:

Guns & Roses Cover Band @ halftime:

Can't see them? Here's a shot from their website, just so you don't miss the effect:

Nice wigs dudes.
And now for something way cuter:

Pretty new purse! This wasn't planned, but when we met in Patina, I couldn't leave her on the shelf. I think it's going to be a perfect travel purse for my upcoming adventures (TBD). Even the back is cute!

I'm slowly feeling better from all the shocking muscle usage at circus class & Rollerdome, just in time for another session of each! Can't wait to see what this week brings :)

Karma...and pasta, and cell phones, and spam filters...

Two possibly unrelated stories, part one:

Wednesday I headed over to Target during my lunch break, though I had gotten up early enough to forage through the fridge there was simply no food in my house to gather for lunch, so I chalked up my 2nd FAIL on lunch resolutions. But learning from my mistake, I used that lunch hour not only to grab a delicious pasta combo from the Pizza Hut kiosk in Target, but also to snap up some groceries to cover the next week.

While eating said pasta, an older couple sat down next to me. I should back up to say that this particular Target is in a sketchy part of town referred to as "Midway" - being midway between Minneapolis & St. Paul, but also apparently midway between sanity and schizophrenia. And erring on the side of nuttiness. One of the last times I was there everyone in Target suddenly raced towards the front glass wall to watch two women engaged in a parking lot smack down. When I was walking out to my car after it had cleared I saw all sorts of ropes and strings on the ground...

WEAVE.

They pulled each other's hair out. Egads. And everyone cheered. I would not be surprised if dollar bills were thrown.

So anyways, Midway is never dull. Sort of like live theatre on your lunch break. Yesterday was relatively calm, I thought while gnawing on my breadsticks. Then previously mentioned couple start discussing their purchase of a gift card for cell phone minutes.

"Do you know how to do this?"
"No. Do you know how to do it?"
"I'm doing it."
"Are you doing it?"
"Do you know how to do this?"

I know exactly what to do in these situations: AVOID EYE CONTACT AT ALL COSTS! HEAD IN PASTA, HEAD IN PASTA!

Unsuccessful.

Man is suddenly standing next to me.
"Will you do this?"
He hands me both his cell phone, and his gift card.

I must look trustworthy.
And tech savvy.

For a moment I had a flash of that little devil on your shoulder saying "JUST RUN AWAY! Who hands you an untraceable cell and what is basically cash to load it with? If this was New York I'd just put it in my pocket and leave.

But it isn't. And I had a huge bag of groceries, I wouldn't be escaping very quickly. Sigh.

So I took the phone and the card, and read the directions while the man went and sat back down across the restaurant with his wife. And once it was done, I handed it back and they called her kids. And he said thank you at least 3 times.

Okay, I guess that was a good choice.

---------------------------------------------------------
Story #2

I returned from an annoying morning of stupid excessive training that didn't even apply to me, so I was in a foul mood and irritated at my lot in life. I've hit my 3 year anniversary in my current job, and nearly 5 years at this company. I was discussing with a coworker my parking situation and wondered if I'd ever make it into one of the lots at our building (I work at an urban university where parking is evil and expensive and slightly political. I've been on one waiting list since I got here 5 years ago and I'm still over 500 people down from the top. Sheesh). Anyways, it spurred me to look up my position on the waiting lists, and I found one had disappeared.

Uh oh.

Had I never been put on this list?

I searched my sent mail to find my registration. Then on a whim I searched my junk mail... uh oh...

Message from Parking & Transportation Services: "Congratulations! You've made it to the top of the list...you must reply within two days to accept this contract."

It had been in my junk mail for three days.

Oh no.

No no no no no.

The parking people hate me. The last time I called their offices was to complain they hadn't gotten one of our guest registrations right, and rather than just fix it, the head of the operation ARGUED WITH ME, VIA EMAIL for 4-5 messages. She told me I had left her voice mail messages that I had not. When I told her that, she insisted. It was insane and unproductive. And since I was holding a grudge, I assumed she was as well.

But I called anyways.

I plead my case.

I tried not to cry.

"I'd be on this list for 2 years, and the message went to my junk mail, and I should have replied 12 hours ago but I just found it, and right now I'm in a student lot where apparently trained monkeys park the cars because they can't for the life of them end up between the lines, or pointing the right way, or taking up only one space..." (caveat: if this is the future of our country, social security is the least of our problems. There is no way this generation can take care us us when we get old, I'm taking my chances on an iceberg.)

"Calm down. It's not over yet."

And then something really strange happened. People were nice to me. Despite having blown the deadline, and having previously engaged in a fairly wicked battle of wits with this office, they allowed me to accept the contract and get into the parking lot directly outside my building. With my new contract, I park 25 steps away from the front doors. Yes, I counted.

Here ends the lesson :)

5 More sites I have recently wasted significant time on:

totallylookslike.com - a few of these made me laugh out loud, which is not good when you are feigning work.

STFUParents.tumblr.com - a nice site if you appreciated "Pregnant Women are Smug." This is what smug pregnant women turn into after birth. I've seen so many of these people, I really should start submitting.

UgliestTattoos.com - See mom, I could have done so much worse.

awkwardfamilyphotos.com - I have resisted posting some of the gems from my childhood specifically because I fear ending up on this site.

ApostropheAbuse.com - this one is a GREAT idea, but needs a little help in the execution. They don't post regularly, but I continue to support it as a community service - apostrophe education is clearly lacking in our country.

Keep Calm and... a little bit of history

I just ran across this super interesting article in BBC News about the ubiquitous "KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON" posters attributed to WWII. They're still all the rage and have inspired legions of parodies (such as the green one in my sidebar), especially amongst the Etsy crowd. Does it make it less interesting now that we know they weren't actually used in WWII? I can't decide. I do love the simplicity of the design. Certainly blows the "Uncle Sam Wants YOU!" posters out of the water.

The greatest motivational poster ever?

By Stuart Hughes
BBC News

Millions of copies of the "Keep Calm and Carry On" poster were printed on the eve of World War II, but never displayed. Now the message has taken on a new lease of life in our troubled peacetime.

The simple five-word message is the very model of British restraint and stiff upper lip. Keep calm and carry on.

In 1939, with war against Germany looming, the Government designed three posters to steady the public's resolve and maintain morale. These featured the crown of King George VI set against a bold red background, and three distinctive slogans - "Freedom is in Peril", "Your Courage, Your Cheerfulness, Your Resolution Will Bring Us Victory", and "Keep Calm and Carry On".

Two-and-a-half million copies of "Keep Calm" were printed, to be distributed in the event of a national catastrophe, but remained in storage throughout the war.

The message was all but forgotten until 2000, when a copy was discovered in a box of books bought at auction by Stuart Manley, a bookseller from Northumberland.

"I didn't know anything about it but I showed it to my wife. We both liked it so we decided to frame it and put it in the shop," explains Mr Manley.

"Lots of people saw it and wanted to buy it. We refused all offers but eventually we decided we should get copies made for sale."

Sales remained modest until 2005, when it was featured as a Christmas gift idea in a national newspaper supplement.

"All hell broke loose," says Mr Manley.

"Our website broke down under the strain, the phone never stopped ringing and virtually every member of staff had to be diverted into packing posters."

Soothing words

The poster was just one of hundreds produced by the Ministry of Information during the war to influence public opinion.

"The poster was a major medium in a way that it isn't now," says Professor Jim Aulich, an expert in propaganda art at Manchester Metropolitan University.

"It wasn't competing with television. It was one of the main ways of reaching people, through billboards and on public transport."

Rescued from obscurity after 70 years, the Ministry of Information's appeal for calm has risen to cult status. Mr Manley's store, Barter Books in Alnwick, receives an average of 1,000 orders a month from around the world. Customers include 10 Downing Street and assorted embassies. The design has been reproduced on T-shirts and coffee mugs, shopping bags and cufflinks.

It has also spawned imitators. One company has given it a twist, replacing the original slogan with "Now Panic and Freak Out".

POST-WAR OFFICIAL SLOGANS

•Clunk click every trip - seatbelt campaign
•Stop, Look, Listen - road safety
•Go to work on an egg - Egg marketing board
•Don't forget to tell Sid - Gas privatisation
To some, the world in 2009 seems as uncertain as it was in 1939, even if modern-day anxieties focus on redundancy and recession rather than bombs and the Blitz. Perhaps this is why the message still seems so relevant.

Of course, it might be difficult for the current government to come up with a poster with quite the same appeal during this time of economic stress. Context is everything, says social psychologist Dr Lesley Prince.

"If the government is in tune with you, you will listen. If you think the government is working on your behalf, you will listen."

This was indisputably the case during WWII, but is less clear-cut even in the most troubled period of peacetime.

Stiff upper lip

And a message of such powerful simplicity might not be so forthcoming these days. Today's government posters attempt to convince the public of an unappreciated danger and get them to modify their behaviour. The "Keep Calm" poster is merely an injunction to think another way and continue acting as you have always acted.

"It's very good, almost zen," says Dr Prince. "It works as a personal mantra now. If people are thinking 'I'm about to lose the house', it's good advice."

People are drawn to the calming Britishness of the message, says Mr Manley.

"It's interesting to look at the kind of places we often sell to; doctors' surgeries, hospitals, schools and government departments. It seems to strike a chord anywhere that works at a hectic pace."

Prof Aulich adds that the message has universal appeal.

"It speaks to peoples' personal neuroses. It's not ideological, it's not urging people to fight for freedom like some propaganda posters did."

Following the end of WWII, most of the posters are believed to have been pulped, never having seen the light of day. Only two original copies are known to have survived.

Thanks to a chance discovery in a dusty box of books, the soothing entreaty is finally having its intended effect, bringing comfort to a nation in turmoil.

Back to life, back to reality...

Monday Morning
sub-zero temperatures
back to work
after a long weekend
and a late night =

OUCH.

I got a bit of a reality check trying to pry myself out of bed this morning, between the bitter cold and the lack of energy, I'm a little surprised I'm actually here. And mostly on time. Wow.

A few updates I realize I have glossed over, what with the distraction of a big surprise party and all:

1. I made another resolution: I gave up giving up caffeine. I decided that this post was total bunk. Well, not total, but not enough reason to keep denying myself my true passion. Plus I was substituting with root beer and cherry 7-up, so half of the reasons for giving it up in the first place were just a wash. I'm a better person with my Cherry Coke. And Dr. Pepper. and Cherry Dr. Pepper...mmmm, true bliss.

2. My phone works! This post was apparently bull$%^& too! After all the turmoil with T-Mobile refusing to sell me a phone I tried to go pick one up at Target but THERE WAS NOT ONE PARKING SPOT IN THE WHOLE LOT. That clearly seemed enough reason to avoid the whole place. When I got home, I rounded up all the phone accessories and when I went for the charger I discovered the phone wasn't dead, my brain apparently was. The charger wasn't plugged in. Oops. So for the past however many days I'd been "charging" my phone all night with a cord that had no power. D'oh. Guess being a terrorist isn't all that bad, it saved me $20! Thanks, terrible T-Mobile customer service!

3. Unfortunately, last night our TV also died, and I have a feeling that is going to cost a lot more than $20. This is our THIRD ONE to croak in under a year! I don't know what is going on. This was our huge splurge last year and it's just been a disaster ever since. We started with a Magnavox, and twice we had to return it within a month when dead lines & spots started appearing across the screen. After the 2nd time, we traded up to a Phillips. That went well for a few more months. then a couple weeks back it wouldn't turn on. We pulled all the plugs and connections and re-attached, and it eventually came back on. Yesterday it went out again, and has yet to recover. I just don't understand what is going on, am I radioactive or something? The rest of the accessories plugged in to that outlet seem fine, nothing has been hit or tipped...who knows. Repair (wo)man en route. MAJOR bummer.

4. So far I've failed on the "bring my lunch to work" resolution. I didn't even make the first day. Oops. Luckily I'm still not that hungry since the Meat Madness meal.
